The Department of Administration oversees the City Clerk's office, the Human Resources Division, the Tax Department, the collection of Water and Sewer Accounts, Accounting, Information Systems, Risk Management/Loss Control, Parking Operations for the Downtown area and the Purchasing Division.

Description of Divisions
The Clerk's Office is the office of records and Voter Registration. In conjunction with the Forrest County Circuit Clerk's office, we have dual registration, which means you may register at either City Hall or the county Circuit Clerk's office for both Municipal and County/State/Federal elections. Your social security number serves as your identification. We also have mail-in forms which may be obtained by calling (601) 545-4550 or send a written request to:

Human Resources accepts employment applications on a continuing basis, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, on the third floor of City Hall located at 200 Forrest Street. For a current listing of open positions, call (601) 554-1022 or click on the link provided below.  Applications remain active for six (6) months.  Applications for the Police or Fire Training Academy are accepted only during advertised recruitment periods.

The Tax Department is located on the second floor of City Hall and is responsible for the following:

Privilege Tax Licenses: All business are required to procure a license to engage in business in the City. The basic information needed to obtain a license is the number of employees and/or the wholesale value of the inventory. Additional information may be needed for specific businesses such as pawn shops, contractors, etc.

Garage Sale Permits: Garage sale permits may be obtained after completing a brief application. The applicant must be the legal owner or occupant of the property where the sale will be held. Two sales per calendar year are allowed without a fee. Each permit, when issued, shall authorize a sale not to exceed two consecutive days and must occur only on the dates specified on the permit. No sales are allowed on Sunday or before 8:00 AM.

Property Tax Information: City property taxes are collected by the county tax collector's office in the county in which the property is located.  Questions regarding the payment of City taxes in Forrest County should be addressed to the Forrest County Tax Collector's Office (601-582-8228) and questions regarding the value of the property or homestead exemption in Forrest County should be addressed to the Forrest County Tax Assessor's Office (601-545-6130).  Questions regarding the payment of City taxes and the value of the property or homestead exemption in Lamar County should be addressed to the Lamar County Tax Assessor/Collector's Office (601-544-4410 or 601-794-1020).

The Water & Sewer Customer Accounts  office is located at 105 South Park Avenue, next to the Kamper Park and Zoo. There is a deposit for water service ($40.00 and up) that can be paid by cash or check. For your convenience, water payments may be drafted from your checking or savings account . Payments may also be made in person at the address listed above. A drive up window is available. Drop boxes are also available at the following locations: The Water & Sewer Customer Accounts office, Cloverleaf Mall, University Mall and City Hall downtown. Payments may also be mailed to:
